1st day of lecture in the 2nd semester
Yesterday the 2nd semester had begun after 1 month of winter holidays. Spent a better part of the holidays just doing part time work. Some guys flew to their home country, While others decided to wait for the 3 months holidays which start at the end of november, having a close eye on the air ticket prices from now onwards. Because prices shoot up sky high around christmas time. (fro eg : from 1200 Aud it can go upto 2000Aud to and from India)
Having said that, my classes kick started yesteday. Ended up having to do or rather choosing to do
1) Strategic Cost Management - Asso.Prof Axel
2)Project Management - Dr. Victoria Hanna
3) Information Architecture - Dr. Suzzana So
4) Managing IT- which i changed to Services and Relationship Marketing - Yet to see who the lecturer is
For sure these subjects and lecturers are going to be key characters throught this semester and throught my blog henceforth. Thats why such a numbered introduction above..
The 1st class which I had yesterday was "Strategic Cost Management" taken by Asso.Prof Axel, this person supposedly is well known for failing students, having set a surprise and tough exam paper 2 semesters back which had tripped a good number of students..that stun is still fresh in many past students minds. This I reconfirmed when he said 1/2 hr into the 1st lecture "In the past many students who did not follow the material properly have failed in this subjects, once the exams are over I have no control over them" (*I wondered whether students sunk by themselves or whether this guy drowned them).
Prof Axel turned up sharp at 10 am..on the dot. I have been waiting all along, for a day where i could see a professor walk in late to a class room. It never ever seems to happen. But im still waiting for that...
Around 10.05am he started off, no signs of excitement what so ever on a brand new semester, introducing the subject website, course administration, structure & the subject workbook(similar to a multi colored telephone directory). Then he started introducing himself...has been teaching stra.cost mgmt for 15 years. His emphasiz on case studies sounded most encouragiing.
And hearing that he is a class act with that was evident.
The class went on for 3 hours with an overview about the subject, an interesting part was a question which was raised at the initial part of the lecture. Axel read out "management accounting enhances an organizations/peoples culture.....". One student raised his hand and asked "what has management accounting has to do with culture"... The prof answered, that each company has it s own strategic goals and management accounting shows how people can be,should be directed towards those goals, in that way shapes the organizations culture.(*a point similar)...Axel said its a good question..guess we better ask good questions from this guy, because no ones wants to think of a stunner in the final exam looking at the grim past. Would rather prefer to be warriors who could battle it out royally and succeed.

hi.. just wanna know your comment .. about MBIT at RMIT and MBusSys at Monash..what d u think about them? compared to MBIT at UniMelb?
Guess which uni & what course various with people.
Doing a MBusSys could corner one just to IT. An element of business adds flexibility, and makes one's experience well rounded.
Between rmit and uni.melb, in terms of reputation, its uni melb undoubtedly. In terms of saving some money RMIT should be given due consideration.
Uni melb sets the trend. One can choose the subjects which he/she wants to study, but no escaping from slogging hard, good profs & excellent environment to get the best out of 1.5 or 2 years of a masters program. gluck
thank u very much grik, i'm very interested in discussing about MBIT unimelb, coz it's one of my favourite choices to pursue my master degree (currently i'm considering about 2 to 3 choices). so may i know your e-mail grik? (if u don't mind) hopefully u can help to discuss about my plan .. thank you very much grik..(osinaga@bi.go.id)
